QUOTES

“The song creates an atmosphere where you feel like you’re driving around among the flashy neon signs, while something dangerous is lurking around every corner. By fusing dark synthwave, electro house and heavy industrial sounds Austin Blau delivers a blasting track, which lifts the listener into the futuristic realm of ‘Night City‘.”

— WE RAVE YOU

“He has captured the vibes of what it would be living in a futuristic city so expertly that I ended up purchasing the game moments after the track was over. You’ll understand what I am talking about the moment you hit play and hear the synthesizers and the bass.”

— BY THE WAVS

“ The wide electronic baseline pairs with a downtempo synth-wave inspired beat that will throw you in zero time in the darkest and dangerous corner of the city.”

— THE GROOVE CARTEL

“What happens when you take a heavy industrial sound, mix it with some dark overtones and ambient breakdowns, while introducing a new style of harmonic industrial-trance arpeggios? You get a fantastic track, just like the one from Austin Blau below titled Night City.”

— EDM SAUCE

“Austin Blau takes us through a vibin listening experience called, “Night City”.”

— THIS SONG SLAPS

Night City was created in homage to the original Cyberpunk Board Games created by Mike Pondsmith. It is also releasing right around the release of Cyberpunk 2077 created by CD Projekt Red with consultation from Mike Pondsmith. I have always been a sci fi fan, but cyberpunk has always had this gloomy edge to it, that had resonated with me. I was always trying to capture the sound of the desolate buildings and the blinding neon lights, so “Night City” became what I had always imagined the sound to be in my head. The rhythms I introduced and the driving distorted bass patterns are all a reflection of the life of Night City and what it would feel like to live in that futuristic city. I hope that the atmosphere in this song, and the driving nature of the synthesizers will resonate with you. This song is more of an approach to capturing a vibe and mood of a cyberpunk city, than to try and be a song without a purpose.

GRIDLOCK

Song Info

Song Name: Gridlock

Release Date: January 19th, 2021

Style: Synthwave

Platforms: Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp, Apple Music…etc

Artwork Creator: Yungwei_Cui

Music Video Director: Yunwei_Cui

Inspirations: Futuristic Cities

Gridlock was a song I had created relatively quickly, yet ironed out for a long while. It was based on my idea of driving around in a futuristic city, and using certain illustrations as inspiration to try and create the appropriate space and atmosphere to achieve that mood. Writing the track became my first try at writing a more traditional synthwave song. I personally like to bend genres slightly when writing, yet this seemed to fit a litter neater into a specific genre than the rest of my electronic songs. It was definitely based around the cyberpunk illustrations I found, but to me feels more like a broader approach to a futuristic city, rather than my previous song "Night City" which was written in a more deliberate approach to replicate the city in an auditory form from the Cyberpunk lore.
